Rosemary Newton (She/Her)
Communications Specialist
Growing up in Vancouver, Rosemary has always had a strong love of the ocean and marine life.
A passion for writing led her to complete a BA in communication studies and psychology at Simon Fraser University and a Certificate of Journalism from Langara College.
As a journalist, she reported for outlets including The Globe and Mail, Daily Xtra, 24 Hours, and the Vancouver Sun where she wrote a series on youth mental health, before transitioning to work in communications and media relations.
Rosemary has worked in various communications and community-based roles, including as a Communications Intern with CIDA in Jamaica and as an Inclusion Facilitator to support students with developmental disabilities to access post-secondary education at UBC.
In her most recent role, she worked for a communications agency, managing PR campaigns for international clients in the technology field.
She is excited to work for a values-based organization to apply her love of storytelling and media to encourage positive change. She is especially interested in how effective scientific communication can encourage people to take everyday actions to support ocean conservation. Rosemary could not be happier to be part of the Ocean Wise team, working among talented marine scientists and advocates to spread Ocean Wise’s work far and wide.
