Ocean Wise Seafood Team

After being the original manager of the Ocean Wise seafood program, Mike is returning to Ocean Wise as the Director of Ocean Wise Seafood. Mike brings a wealth of knowledge to the position with over 20 years’ experience in Marine Conservation directly related to fisheries and aquaculture.

Growing up on the West Coast Mike developed a strong passion for the oceans and their inhabitants compelling him to study Marine Biology at the University of Victoria and the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre. From there, Mike accepted a position with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans where he worked on research related to the impacts of fisheries and aquaculture on the marine environment.

In 2013, Mike opened his own award-winning sustainable seafood business, which challenged the traditional concept of the seafood market. Mike was named a Top 40 Foodie Under 40 (2008) and one of The Most Influential People in the Canadian Food Industry (2016). “The Ocean Wise seafood program combines two of my greatest passions – my passion for conserving our oceans and my passion for food. My desire is to ensure that future generations have the same opportunities to marvel at the wonders of life flourishing in our oceans as I have had.”
