    With the support from the Ocean Wise Seafood program and your seafood supplier, we will assess the seafood you are currently using. We will collect information on the species name as well as how and where it was harvested.

    The annual membership fee starts at $300 plus tax and can be paid by credit card or cheque.

    You will have access to use the Ocean Wise Seafood logos to identify approved  items. All use of the logos and symbol must be first proofed and approved by staff.

    We provide training for your staff so that they are able to explain the program, its goals and the meaning of the logos. Training sessions and materials are available online, in person (depending on your location) or via webinar.

Do we need to be 100% Ocean Wise in order to join?

You can start with just one sustainable seafood item to join. We will work closely with you to improve and source other sustainable options for your business.

Can farmed seafood be sustainable?

It depends on what species is being farmed and how it's farmed. In some cases, the farmed option is far better than the wild counterpart, such as mussels, clams, oysters and scallops.

Is sustainable seafood more expensive?

Not necessarily. You may already be using a sustainable seafood item without knowing it. There are also great under-utilized species that are relatively inexpensive, such as mussels and sardines. Not to mention, responsible fishing and harvesting practices often equate to higher quality seafood.

Is the Ocean Wise Seafood program only in Western Canada?

Although the Ocean Wise Seafood program was founded on the West Coast, we are an international program that can be found across Canada and beyond!
